THE WAY
“Which way should Jesus face – towards me or through the windshield? It's not a question Lady Hummingbird would ask. Nor would she mind if I suggested replacing Him with Janus. But for people who might think my suggestion bird brained, irrelevant or lacking compassion, I assert my right to equal absurdity.
Such questions, by the billions, are duly indexed on the web. One may easily buy a faceted crystal.
As I am reading here in the backyard, Susan brings a visitor. “Are you retired?” the visitor asks. I answer that I am. “Do you like it?” I answer that I do. “I don't like it,” she says and the tour moves on.
It is such a pleasant afternoon, interim fall weather, a moist breeze, dappling shadows. Tabitha wanders around, pauses to chew a blade of grass, comes to sit on this clipboard and purrs a bit as I scratch an ear.
Last night on the news Congress stopped bickering long enough to listen to the Pope. It obviously moved the Speaker, who next day announced he was giving up his post.
Our President and the Pope agree on the most important issue. As the Pope put it: if the climate is ignored, humanity may not continue.
Humanity not to continue? Well, let it go. Know anyone immortal? Retirement? Look it up on the net.
