EFFORTLESS
timeless

rain, rain, rain
We are survivors . . .
Humans are here at the last moment, which might end in a blinding flash, or perhaps slowly as we bake to death. As we leave history in the dust, it's clear that Nero was a piker, and not very appreciative. Imagine the horror had he gotten his hands on modern technology!
Would the insects care?
While inventions pace the Ponzi scheme, what we have wrought amplifies hubris; rain forests being cleared at the rate of 1.5 acres per second. Such schemes collapse. The world is burning now and, as Nero's ghost fiddles on, one might just sit? It seems inappropriate, especially considering the joy of it.
Humans of course are intelligent. Oh elephants, your faithful dog, cat, parrot . . . but Real intelligence R us! We may be wasted by a swarm of bots. My computer's successor will outsmart all of us.
Birdland in god's country, so far spared the extremes of Change, is no Empire. Here are birds, squirrels, neighborhood dogs and cats, free to come go, and I am free too, though the evening news makes that seem a fluke. But it's no accident. Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, though unequally shared, are embers that still glow in our Constitution. Our rights linger beneath the ashes.
The accelerating disaster has required effort, but not much thought, even with the best of intentions. Like the insects, Murphy's Law remains even if corruption, malice, and egoistic schemes are somehow unbelievably eliminated. Incalculable forces influence all beings and human projects. A solar flare or computer glitch, for example, can take down power grids. In a Way, everything is connected.
This Way is important.
Just sitting, which has been called effortless effort, is immersed in it. It's not magic, however, and this is no tutorial. Suffice to say, a person thus immersed does not reboot an entire civilization. The practice does foster a decided lack of interest in destruction, a benefit sorely needed, and inspires appreciation. To obtain a human body is rare. So are conditions of freedom, fellow beings, this planet, all in one vast universe.
Unlikely as it seems, one person changes the social current a little, maybe not enough. As sitting deepens, though, such concerns fade. A transformation, with all its ramifications, goes on in the midst of daily life.
